Director
Dr. Thomas K. Skalko, Ph.D., LRT/CTRS developed Horizons in 2002.  Dr. Skalko oversees all staffing and operations.

Employment Opportunities
ECU Horizons provides students with the opportunity to work in a real treatment setting, under direct supervision of qualified mental health professionals. Students will work with local agencies in providing treatment services, which focus on the client’s Person Centered Plan.  
 
Coordinator/Assistant Coordinator
  • Supervises staff and all daily operations, including check-in/ check-out, special events, billing. Provides assistance to groups, conducts training, and facilitates daily documentation.

Program Facilitators
  • Develops, facilitates and records group interventions. Supervises volunteers. Documents daily progress.

Group Leaders
  • Responsible for day-to-day supervision and interaction of a designated group of children. Provides assistance to the Program Facilitator. Documents daily progress.

Family Outreach
  • Works with the child’s family to ensure therapeutic goals and objectives are reinforced in the child’s natural setting. Also participates in day treatment with clients. Documents family progress.

Support Personnel
  • Provides assistance to all staff as needed. Facilitates interventions and supervises groups in the absence of facilitators and group leaders. Documents daily progress.

Research Associate
  • Gathers and interprets information related to research topics and effectiveness studies.  

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
The Recreation Therapy licensure and certification requirements state students must complete an internship under a CTRS and LRT. The ECU Horizons program is a certified internship provider with qualified supervisory staff.
