RCLS Undergraduate Society
All Recreation and Leisure Studies students are welcome to attend and become members of the RCLS Undergraduate Society. Most members tend to be majors and minors in Recreational Therapy, but Recreation and Park Management majors and minors participate, as do students from a variety of other majors. Our purpose is to promote professional development, enhance relationships between students and faculty members, and provide service to the area.
This is a service organization and we engage in a wide range of volunteer opportunities in agencies and organizations that focus on recreation therapy, community/nonprofit recreation, parks, tourism, youth sports, long-term care facilities, and many other places where people live their lives. We are focused on learning about and contributing to the fields of Recreational Therapy and Recreation and Park Management.
As a service organization, the Society provides many volunteer opportunities in a wide range of agencies and organizations. It is also a great networking opportunity with like-minded people, and can contribute to a strong resume; it demonstrates a commitment to the profession and can really help when professors are writing letters of recommendation.
The Society doesn't just meet to talk about business—an overwhelming majority of our members are active outside of meetings throughout the year. In addition to providing community service opportunities, the society participates in intramurals, plans small events like dinners for professors, holds socials and fundraisers, helps build friendships, and provides networking opportunities.
So if you're interested in becoming a member, we encourage you to join our e-mail list! The Society will send out more information regarding the time and location of our first meeting via e-mail.
Recreation and Park Management Club
The Recreation and Park Management Club was created to give students an opportunity to participate in recreation-based community service projects, social events, career exploration experiences, networking, and other professional development opportunities. Any ECU student is welcome to this club.
We are a relatively new group, formed in 2011 to support students majoring and minoring in Recreation and Park Management, as well as any students with an interest in recreation. We do service activities for the community, hold social events for members, help support professional development opportunities for members (travel to conferences), and advocate for more parks and recreation opportunities in the area. Our members are people who are interested in careers in:
- Outdoor recreation (hiking, kayaking, mountain biking)
- Community recreation (like Greenville Parks and Recreation Department or the Pitt County Schools and Recreation Program)
- Nonprofit recreation (like the YMCA or Boys and Girls Club)
- Tourism and commercial recreation (including cruise ships, resorts, and eco-tourism sites)
- Campus recreation and student activities
- Youth sports
- Festivals and special events
For more information about the Recreation and Park Management Club, contact the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies at email@example.com or call 252-328-5458. Someone from the Club will get back to you as soon as they can.
