To protect both students and clients with whom they will be interacting, several requirements must be met prior to engaging in any ECU supported fieldwork.

INSURANCE COVERAGE. Prior to engaging in any type of fieldwork (practicum, internship), RT students need to go the ECU Service Learning and Volunteer Center (SLVC) and register. Each student will then present a copy of their registration to their RCLS Faculty Mentor; students should also keep a duplicate copy. By registering with the SLVC, students are covered under a group liability policy should anything go awry while engaged in a learning experience off campus.

CLINICAL ROTATION REQUIREMENTS. All Recreational Therapy Interns must provide verification of readiness to engage in a clinical internship PRIOR to beginning any internship experience, including on-site orientation. In some instances, these verifications are required prior to a student engaging in any type of fieldwork (practicum, exploration hours). These requirements are spelled out in the RT Internship Manual.

IMMUNIZATIONS. Clinical settings mandate that all employees and volunteers show proof of immunization to protect both the patients and the employees. Please go to the ECU Student Health Center website and print a copy of your immunization record. In addition to the standard immunizations to enroll at ECU, all interns will need proof of two (2) negative TB tests prior to going on internship.

BACKGROUND CHECK. In addition to ensuring that immunizations are up to date, clinical settings also require criminal background checks of all employees and volunteers. Many agencies will only accept background checks from a particular agency; in addition, ECU students receive a cost discount when using CertifiedBackground.com. Obtain the "Package Code" in the PLACE ORDER box, from the Internship Coordinator to receive the price discount.

DRUG SCREENING. As with the previous requirements, many clinical settings mandate that employees and volunteers pass a drug screening process. If the agency at which you wish to intern requires a drug screen, then contact Core Intervention Solutions to make an appointment. This business is located here in Greenville and is the company that will conduct the specific drug screening needed. Core Intervention Solutions staff may be reached at (252) 317-3792. The business is located at 1021 West H. Smith Blvd, Suite 106, Greenville, NC 27834. W. H. Smith Blvd is between Dickinson Avenue and Stantonsburg Road.

BUCKLEY FORM. Lastly, to ensure that the Internship Supervisor has access to these personal records and can verify your readiness for internship, it is necessary that you go online to your One Stop account and complete the Buckley Form. ECU provides directions on how to complete the Buckley Form.
