Add New Item

First give your link a user friendly label name such as "Home" or "Athletics". Then, choose whether or not you want the link to be a parent or a child item. A parent item is the text that is seen on the navigation bar. When a mouse hovers over a parent item a drop down list appears with the various child items that relate to it. For example, on the student bookstore site "Textbooks" is a parent item and "refunds", "buyback", etc are child items.

There are two ways to make an item a child or parent.

  • From the add new item window, use the parent drop down list to choose either "No Parent" or the item you want the menu item to be listed under.
  • Once all the menu items are created, they can be rearranged by dragging and dropping. The child menu items will be indented under the parent menu items.

Now give your item a link either Internal or External to:

Click the text box next to the URL listed "" to type in the extension to that page for an internal URL. Example: /cs-itcs/commonspot
*Make sure that each link to an individual page ends in ".cfm" otherwise the page will not appear when the link is clicked.*
Click the check mark next to "External URL" and then click in the text box next to the URL listed "http://" and type in the extension to that page for an external URL. Example:

When you are finished creating a new menu item, click the Create button.
