Protect Your Passphrase: It’s a Matter of Life and Theft

Occasionally, your passphrase might expire before you get a chance to change it, or you might get locked out of your accounts due to a technical glitch, so you need your passphrase reset. Since you use your ECU PirateID and passphrase to access accounts―like e-mail and OneStop―that house important and confidential information, you want to be sure that no one but YOU can request a change to your passphrase.

Options for Resetting Your Passphrase

To better protect your identity and digital information, ITCS is offering three different options for resetting your passphrase:

1.      Register at pirateid.ecu.edu and take charge of any changes that are made to your passphrase. Registering through this system allows you to quickly and easily reset your own passphrase when necessary, from anywhere at any time. The system’s security checks make sure that the person trying to change your passphrase is actually “you” by asking a few questions that you select and to which only you know the answers. We encourage you to take advantage of this service!

2.      Visit a designated passphrase-reset location for walk-in assistance during regular business hours. You will be required to sign a consent form and present a valid photo ID such as your 1 Card, driver’s license, or government issue ID. ITCS staff will then submit a passphrase-reset request to the IT Help Desk.^*

WEST CAMPUS
ACE Computer Support Center, 3536 Laupus Library, Health Sciences Building

3.      Call the IT Help Desk during regular business hours. You will be required to fax or e-mail a copy of a valid photo ID such as your 1 Card, driver’s license, or government issue ID.^*

^*Please note: Passphrase-reset requests submitted before 12:00noon will be completed no later than 5:00pm the same business day. Requests submitted after 12:00noon will be completed no later than 12:00noon the following business day. ITCS staff will make every effort to reset your passphrase as soon as possible.
