Getting Connected

Residence Hall Internet Access

  • Residence halls have two Ethernet access ports in every room.
  • Computer should have a standard ethernet network card.
  • Computer must be running currently supported OS (Windows 2000, Windows XP, Mac OS X)
  • Computer must have Symantec Antivirus running (provided free of charge to ECU students via the ECU SharePoint Download site, http://download.ecu.edu (General Files >> Virus and Security Applications), and have the current Windows Updates (not required for Macintosh and Linux users) in order to connect. 
  • The first time a student connects to the network they will be prompted to download and install “Cisco Clean Access Agent” (Cisco CCA)
  • Once installed Cisco CCA will prompt and assist you should you need to install Symantec or update your computer)

Campus Wireless Access

  • ECU has a wireless network available to all students, faculty and staff.
  • To access the wireless network you must have a 802.11b or 802.11g compatible wireless card.
  • Users are required to login with their PirateID and passphrase.
  • Wireless is not available in the dorm rooms (installing a personal wireless routers is not permitted).

Support and Assistance

  • ECU's IT Help Desk (328-9866) and the ACE student computer support center (108 Rawl) provide help to students needing assistance with connecting to the network.
