What is ActiveSync?
ActiveSync is a synchronization program developed by Microsoft that allows a mobile device (e.g. smart phones, pocket PC phones, or pocket PCs) to be synchronized with either a desktop PC or a server running MS Exchange.
What does this mean for you?
Currently you can setup your email, contacts, and calendar on your mobile device to synchronize with the Exchange servers.

To use your Pocket PC phone to set up over-the-air synchronization with Exchange Server, follow these steps:
1. From the Home screen on your Pocket PC phone, press Start and scroll to Programs.
2. Choose ActiveSync.
3. Select Menu > Configure Server.
4. In Server address, enter the name of the server running Exchange Server (piratemail.ecu.edu).
5. Select the check box next to "This server requires an encrypted (SSL) connection."
6. Select Next.
7. Enter your username, password, and domain (intra). If you want your Pocket PC phone to save your password, so you won’t have to enter it every time you want to check your mail, select Save password, which will put a checkmark in the checkbox.
8. Choose advanced to change the rules for resolving synchronization conflicts.
9. Select Next.
10. Select the check boxes for the types of information items that you want to synchronize with Exchange Server. If a box has a check in it and you don’t want to synchronize that particular type of information, tap the box to uncheck it.
11. Select Finish.
12. To change how often and when you want to synchronize (for example, as items arrive during peak times), select Menu > Schedule.
13. Select OK.

To use your smartphone to set up over-the-air synchronization with Exchange Server, follow these steps:
1. From the Home screen on your smartphone, press Start and scroll to ActiveSync.
Note: You may see a screen with several messages. If you click on the link that says "If your company supports syncing directly with its Exchange Server you can set up your device to sync with it," you'll be led through a series of steps to sync your e-mail with your Exchange Server. Otherwise, continue with the steps below.
2. Select Menu > Add Server Source.
3. In Server address, enter the name of the server running Exchange Server. (piratemail.ecu.edu)
4. Select the check box next to "This server requires an encrypted (SSL) connection."
5. Select Next.
6. Enter your username, password, and domain name (intra), and select Next.
7. If you want your smartphone to save your password, so you won't have to enter it every time you want to check your mail, select Save password, which will put a checkmark in the checkbox.
