1. Do NOT post the same message (or variations of) more than once.
Check and recheck the message before sending, making sure it's complete
and accurate!
2. Do NOT post personal messages or questions to the list.
The exceptions to this rule are:
1. Requests for shared leave and "Thank You" (personal).
2. Item(s) needed to perform work related tasks.
3. Messages should be of interest to the majority of subscribers.
Note: Only ECU Faculty and Staff are subscribed to the list.
Just because it's "easy" to post on Announce don't send a message
that only concerns the minority.
4. Put your message in a readable format and use a spelling checker.
Type in MiXeD case letters, not all CAPS. When typing in all CAPS
it appears that the sender is yelling or angry. DO use all caps to
emphasize a word or phrase.
5. Batch messages together to conserve resources and save processing time.
6. Include a subject with the message. It's not uncommon for persons
receiving a high volume of mail to delete mail without a subject and
never open it. A subject also allows the mail to be deleted if not of interest.
7. If ECU has no official ties to the request, don't send it here!
This rule applies directly to, but is not limited to, ECU clubs and
organizations. ECU policy strictly prohibits "door to door"
solicitation. In this respect consider an individual's mailbox a door.
This prohibition includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Canvassing - to solicit orders, political support or to determine opinions or sentiments
Peddling - to sell or offer for sale
Soliciting - to approach with a request or plea
Questions or concerns regarding this policy should be directed to the
University Attorney's office.
