CommonSpot

What is CommonSpot?
CommonSpot is a Content Management System (CMS) based on ColdFusion and provides simple yet refined tools for creating and managing Web content in a collaborative environment. Working through the Web browser, CommonSpot eliminates the need for special software or complex scripting. Authoring and editing tools like those offered in Microsoft Word and other Office applications, make it so that content can be copied and pasted directly, preserving all formatting, and automatically converted to HTML. Users can create new Web pages, edit, and approve content without ever leaving the Web browser or having advanced knowledge of HTML encoding. ECU supports authoring under Internet Explorer for PC users and FireFox for Mac users.

Note: CommonSpot is for departmental use and not personal sites.

Get Started
To begin using CommonSpot to develop websites at ECU, you must first attend training. Faculty and Staff may register in OneStop by visiting the Faculty & Staff Training link under the Employee heading on the Tools page. Student workers must be registered under their supervisor’s name in OneStop. Supervisors are asked to send an email to the instructor notifying him/her that a student worker will be attending in his/her place. For guidance in developing your website, please review the Web Publishing site.
