Connect2ECU

What is Connect2ECU?
ECU has created a new process that requires East Campus users to log into the university network. Until logged in, users cannot access the Internet, e-mail or instant messaging. Coined “Connect2ECU”, the new process guards the university network against hackers, viruses and worms, and allows ECU network administrators to better protect confidential faculty, staff and student data while keeping the network up and running smoothly.

Get Started

Printable Connect2ECU Web Instructions (with screenshots)

  1. Install Cisco Clean Access Agent (CAA) for Windows, which will verify that your computer has met the network requirements. (At this time, there is not a Mac version of Cisco Clean Access Agent, so Mac users will skip this step.)

Each student living in a campus residence hall should receive a Student Computing Essentials CD in their room with the Symantec AntiVirus software. If you did not receive a CD, you can pick up one from any of the locations below:

       • ACE Student Computing Support Center, Rawl 108
       • Walk-in IT Help Desk, Austin 103
       • Computer Lab, Austin 104

  2. Have Symantec AntiVirus (SAV) software installed, updated and running on your computer. Be sure to use the LiveUpdate feature to get the most up-to-date virus definitions! You MUST use Symantec (previously Norton) AntiVirus software; other brands of antivirus software will not work with the Connect2ECU process and must be removed.

If you did not receive a Student Computing Essentials CD with the Symantec AntiVirus software, please go to OneStop >> Personal >> Software Downloads >> Virus / Security Software to download the latest version of SAV.

Note: Before installing Symantec, you must turn off User Acces Control (UAC) in your control panel. Go to Start >> Control Panel >> Users >> Turn off UAC, then uncheck UAC. Restart your computer. This will allow Symantec to install. This does require students to remove a security feature but it is highly recommended to turn back on the UAC (User Account Control).

  3. Update your Windows operating system. (Mac users will skip this step.)
Go to update.microsoft.com and follow the instructions for updating your Windows operating system. Microsoft will determine what updates and service packs are appropriate for your computer. Another option is to use the new feature by Microsoft where you can update any Microsoft product such as Microsoft Office. Click here for more information.

NOTE: Updating your Windows operating system may take several minutes and may require you to reboot your computer. It is also a good idea to update your Microsoft Office software frequently by going to office.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdate/default.aspx; Installing Microsoft update (accessible from Windows Update) will automatically check for Windows and Office updates. Turn on Automatic Updates to keep your operating system and Microsoft Office up to date.

NON-WINDOWS USERS: If your computer is running the Macintosh operating system or Linux,  log in through Connect2ECU with a Web browser and authenticate with your ECU PirateID and passphrase. Keep the operating system up to date and install Symantec AntiVirus Software  with the latest virus definitions. (You only need to download this program the first time you log into the network.) Run the Connect2ECU client software to scan your computer and complete the Connect2ECU login process.

If you experience any problems please contact the Help Desk.
