Recover Deleted Mail Items

Recover deleted mail items from Outlook or Piratemail using the following instructions.

Mail item you send to the Deleted Items folder are stored for 14 days. After 14 days, deleted items are automatically moved to the Recover Deleted Items area for 14 more days. Items stored here are permanently purged on day 15 and are unrecoverable. 

Days 1-14 - Deleted Items Mailbox Folder

Drag an item from the Deleted folder of your email back to its original folder (inbox, sent, etc.).

Outlook 2007

  1. From the item's original folder or the Deleted Items folder, click Recover Deleted Items... from the Tools tab at the top of the screen. The Recover Deleted Items dialog box opens.

  2. From the dialog box, highlight the item/s to recover. To select multiple items at once, hold down the Ctrl key as you click each item.

  3. Click the Recover Selected Items button from the top of the dialog box. Items are moved back to their original folder.

Outlook 2010 & 2013

  1. Click the Folder tab.

  2. Choose Recover Deleted Items from the Clean Up section of the toolbar. The Recover Deleted Items dialog box opens.

  3. From the dialog box, highlight the item/s to recover. To select multiple items at once, hold down the Ctrl key as you click each item.
  4. Click the Recover Selected Items button from the top of the dialog box. Items are moved to the current open email folder (inbox, sent, etc.).

  5. If you don't see Recover Deleted Items, check that you are using an Exchange account and there is a folder selected in that account.

Piratemail

  1. Navigate to http://piratemail.ecu.edu and sign in using your PirateID.

  2. Right-click the Deleted Items folder.

  3. Choose Recover Deleted Items (last item). The Recovered Deleted Items dialog box opens.

  4. From the dialog box, highlight the item/s to recover. To select multiple items at once, hold down the Ctrl key as you click each item.

  5. Click the Recover Selected Items button from the top of the dialog box. The Recover to Folder dialog box opens.

  6. Choose a folder or create one to store the restored item/s.
