Faculty and Staff E-mail / Piratemail is Improving!

What do you need to do to get ready?

1. If you access e-mail on a Windows Mobile device, iPhone or iPod Touch, or through Entourage, you will need to install the necessary security (SSL) certificates prior to February 6, 2009.

Windows Mobile Certificates (install on your mobile device; you can save the files in the location that is automatically chosen):
Install certificate 1  ,  Install certificate 2

Mac Entourage Certificates: ww.ecu.edu/cs-itcs/mac/OS-X-Certificate-Installation.cfm.

iPhone or iPod Touch Certificates (install on your mobile device):
Install certificate

>> Be sure you have the latest version of the iPhone Software:
for iPhone      ,     for iPod Touch


>> Your mail settings should be:

Email: yourPirateID@ecu.edu (replace 'yourPirateID' with your unique PirateID)
Server: piratemail.ecu.edu
Domain: intra
Username: yourPirateID (use your unique PirateID)
Password: ********** (your unique password/passphrase)

Description: yourPirateID@ecu.edu (replace 'yourPirateID' with your unique PirateID)
Use SSL: On


2. Windows users should upgrade to Office 2007 if you haven’t already.

To take advantage of all of the new e-mail features, you should upgrade to Microsoft Office 2007. *If you are using Office 2003, your e-mail will still work, you just won't have access to all of the new features.*

Minimum hardware requirements:
 
- 1 GB RAM
- 1.8 Ghz processor or higher
- 10 GB of free hard drive space
- Windows XP or later operating system
 
Estimated Installation Time: 10-15 minutes
 
You do not need to uninstall previous versions of Microsoft Office. Close all applications prior to installing Office 2007; restarting your computer after installation should not be necessary.

3. If you are a Mac Entourage user, you will need to update your Exchange account settings once your mailbox has been moved.

Go to Tools > Accounts > double click Exchange account > in Account Settings tab, change the Exchange Server at the bottom to "piratemail.ecu.edu/exchange/yourPirateID@ecu.edu" (no quotes).

Enhanced Outlook Web Access
(Piratemail - http://piratemail.ecu.edu)
:

  • Piratemail is a near-perfect clone of the Outlook 2003 desktop interface.

  • Piratedrive: Access your Piratedrive through Piratemail by clicking ‘Documents’ in the left options menu and then entering the directory path.

  • SharePoint: Click the ‘My Site’ link on the top toolbar in Piratemail to go to your individual SharePoint site. From there, you can navigate to other sites within SharePoint.

  • Address Book: Quickly view free/busy status of individuals in the Exchange Address Book.

Schedulable Out of Office:

  • Out of Office messages can now be scheduled to begin and end on specific dates and times, reducing the likelihood of a user’s out of office not being set.

  • Out of office messages can be sent to internal and external recipients, and can also be set or unset from a mobile device.

  • A recent recipients list is now available so that you don’t have to search for commonly-used email addresses.

Directory/Contacts Details:

  • Click a user's name to view details about them. Information is pulled from ECU's Exchange directory as well as Entourage and your contacts list.

Address Book:

  • Quickly view free/busy status of individuals in the Exchange Address Book.

  • Out of office messages can be sent to internal and external recipients, and can also be set or unset from a mobile device.
