Faculty Account Creation Process

There are three situations newly-hired faculty are added to the ECU system:

Method 1. New Hire is Candidate of Choice

This is the usual and preferred way new faculty hires are processed. The contract has been signed.

  1. Department chooses "Candidate of Choice" in PeopleAdmin system
  2. ITCS creates PirateID and email account*
  3. ITCS adds PirateID to Blackboard user feed (allow 24-48 hours)
  4. New Hire obtains BannerID from hiring department
  5. New Hire activates PirateID at the passphrase maintenance website, http://pirateid.ecu.edu
  6. New Hire accesses assigned Blackboard courses, or
  7. Department submits ITCS service ticket, ithelp.ecu.edu, to request Blackboard course development space if classes not yet assigned

*PLEASE NOTE: A prospective employee's temporary PirateID expires after 45 days. Departments should call the IT Help Desk at 252.328.9866 | 800.340.7081 to extend a prospective employee's PirateID account past the initial 45-day window.

    Method 2. New Hire is not yet the "Candidate of Choice"

    This method allows a new faculty hire access to email and Blackboard while contract and other paperwork are in process. Access to other benefits, such as software downloads, is not available until hiring process is complete.

    1. Department submits EPAF via Self-Service Banner (SSB) - HN0000 Add Person Record for Non Employee (not paid by ECU)
    2. ITCS creates PirateID and email account
    3. ITCS adds PirateID to Blackboard user feed (allow 24-48 hours)
    4. New Hire obtains BannerID from hiring department
    5. New Hire contacts the IT Help Desk 252.328.9866 | 800.340.7081 for PirateID activation code
    6. New Hire uses activation code to register new PirateID at the passphrase maintenance website,pirateid.ecu.edu
    7. New Hire accesses assigned Blackboard courses, or
    8. Department submits ITCS service ticket, ithelp.ecu.edu, to request Blackboard course development space if classes not yet assigned

      Method 3. New Hire is Previous Employee

      This type of new hire will already have a Banner ID in the system.

      1. Department contacts Human Resources (HR_IPS@ecu.edu) to flag the New Hire as a non-employee. The request MUST include the name of the person, the original Banner ID and permanent home address. HRIS telephone: 252.328.9884.
