The importance of updating our computers regularly cannot be overemphasized. People who have connected their computers to the network with out-of-date, defective software have had their computers infected or broken into within hours, and sometimes minutes. Follow the instructions in the Computer Security Reference (pdf) document to keep your computer secure. Use the Table of Contents to find the specific information that you desire. Older operating systems (98, ME) simply can not be kept secure so upgrade immediately.

The Microsoft Update website provides updates for your operating system and office applications. If you do not have the Microsoft Update option on your Start Menu of your computer, please upgrade to the Microsoft Update before preceding. Instructions on upgrading are located in the Computer Security Reference (pdf) document under the Updating Microsoft Software section. You will be given a choice between "Express Install" and "Custom Install" choose "Express Install" and accept all available updates. Reboot your computer if you are prompted.
