Share Level Protection

By default, when you share a folder on your computer, everyone on the network has read permissions. That means internal (ECU) and external (Internet) users can read the information on your computer.

We recommend using the Piratedrive to share data. If you feel you must share it via your computer, you must set permissions on your folder to control access to your data.

You can control who has access to your data from the network by setting shared folder permissions in Windows XP. This capability allows you to place documents that need to be shared on the network with some people (but not others) into folders and designate which users or groups can access those folders, and also what level of access each can have.

That is, a particular user can be given permission to read only, to make changes, or to take full control.

You set shared folder permissions using the Sharing tab on the folder’s Properties sheet. These permissions can only be set on folders, not individual files.

The Permissions button is used to specify the users and groups that will have access.

Use Caution when sharing folders. Ensure you share only the folders that need to be shared and remove the access when the folders no longer should be shared.

See Guidelines For Protecting Sensitive Data for more tips on data protection.
