Account Settings Sets up user accounts, what programs they can access and how users log in. Recommended settings: Make sure Guest Account is completely disabled.
Date & Time>Date & Time Tab Changes your computer's date, time or time zone. Recommended settings: Turn on "Set date & Time automatically" with "Apple Americas/U.S. (time.apple.com)" time server.
Time Zone Settings Sets the time zone for your current location. Recommended settings: Set to "Atlanta, U.S.A." while on campus.
Clock Settings Changes the display format and lets you set it to speak the time. Recommended settings: Leave to the default settings.
Parental Controls Used to set up times the computer can be used and what applications users can open. Recommended settings: Leave to defaults.
Software Update Gets the computer's updates. Recommended settings: Leave to the default settings.
Speech Allows you to set spoken commands to control your computer, have the computer announce alerts when they appear or speak the text on a screen. Recommended Settings: Leave to default.
Startup Disk Sets the system you want to use to start up on your computer. Recommended Settings: Make sure at least one system has been selected.
Time Machine Used to automatically back up your data. Recommended Settings: Leave off. If turned on, you will need an External hard drive to complete the setup process.
Universal Access If you have trouble seeing, hearing or using the keyboard or mouse, this section makes the computer easier to use. Recommended Settings: Leave to default.
