Lion - Dock Indicators
Previous versions of OS X had a white dot underneath the application in the Dock that indicated that it was open. By default, Lion has that turned off but you can turn it back on with just a checkbox.
Directions:
Step 1 - Go to Apple Menu and open System Preferences.Step 2 - Click on the Dock icon.
Step 3 - Turn on the "Show indicator lights for open applications".
