OS X - Force Quitting

Force quitting an application

There are several ways to force quit an application. Be wary of doing so as you will lose any unsaved data. Sometimes its best to wait until the application times out or comes back with a result. Patience can help here.

Ways to quit:
  • From the Apple menu, choose Force Quit. Select the application from the available list and click the Force Quit button.

  • Hold down the Command (Apple)+ Option keys and press ESC. Select the application in the list and click Force Quit.

  • Hold down the Option key and click on the application in the Dock. Choose Force Quit from the resulting menu.
