Symantec 10.2 - Installation Instructions

Compatibility
  • This version is for OS X.4.10 (Tiger) and later, and X.5 (Leopard).
  • Works on both PowerPC and Intel Macs (Universal).

New to Symantec:
  • Includes an ability to "snooze" a scheduled scan so that it can happen at a later time.

Known Issues:

  • When Leopard users upgrade to X.5.3, previous versions of Symantec will give this error "Norton Antivirus Auto-Protect could not continue. Please run LiveUpdate or reinstall Norton Antivirus and restart (Code:  9)". DO NOT reinstall the previous version. Symantec 10.2 must be installed.
  • Any previous versions of Symantec will have to be uninstalled first.
  • Auto-Protect doesn't scan Stuffit archives in the .SITX format
  • Symantec 10 cannot be installed on a UFS formatted or a Case-Sensitive HFS+ formatted disk.

Invisible Files (Quoted from Symantec)

Symantec AntiVirus 10.2 for Macintosh creates an invisible file named "SymAVQSFile " on any drive that it scans. The size of this file depends on the number of files on the scanned drive.

Symantec AntiVirus 10 for Macintosh creates two invisible files named "DiskQSF" and "DiskQSFLockFIle" on the installation volume. The size of these files depends on the number of drives scanned by the Mount Scanner.

Note: These files are not known to pose any problems. This information is provided to comply with all international laws requiring that users be advised of hidden (or invisible) files created on, or copied to, their hard disks.
