Tiger - Customize your Desktop

This is one of the easiest ways to customize your Mac. Apple has a website (http://images.apple.com/downloads/macosx/icons_screensavers/) full of free screen savers and you can also use your own images.

First, let's set your desktop picture. You can add just one picture that will be displayed all the time or have the images shuffled to become a custom slide show for your desktop.

Note: CRT displays still have problems with "burned-in images" but LCD displays do not have this problem.

Step 1
Choose your image. Size does matter. A 56KB image is probably about as small as you can go on a 15" LCD screen before it starts looking pixilated.

Step 2
From the Apple menu, select System Preferences.

Step 3
Click on Desktop & Screen Saver.

Step 4
Click on the Desktop tab.
Drag your image onto the preview image.

OR

If you have a collection of images in a folder, click once on "Choose folder..." in the left navigation pane and select your image from there.

Step 5
Once your image is selected, you must now decide how you want it to appear. There is a menu just below the Desktop tab that will allow you to select "Fill screen", "Stretch to fill screen", "Center", or "Tile". Adjust to your liking.

If you have a folder of images, you can also have the desktop change in different time increments or in random order. This option is located at the bottom of the Desktop window.

Adjust your image.
