TrueCrypt - What is it?

Its an opensource software application, distributed free of charge, that can encrypt data on the fly. It can

• create a virtual encrypted disk within a file
• encrypt an individual partition
• encrypt a whole partition or drive
• can create portable volumes
  

It is supported on multiple platforms: Windows, OS X, and Linux. AES, Serpent and Twofish are supported by TrueCrypt.
