iPad - General Tips
Hold down the volume down button for about two seconds will mute the iPad.
Push the top power button and home button at the same time for half a second. A 768x1024 image will appear in your iPhoto.
You're at the bottom of a very long web page. Instead of repeatedly dragging your finger across the screen, just tap the title bar of Safari once.
PREVIEW MORE EMAIL
Only see one or two lines in your preview? With a larger screen than the iPhone, you can now adjust the mail preview so there are more lines of text. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts and Calendars and select "5 lines" under Preview. Handy when you're trying to skim through your emails faster.
BRING UP THE VIRTUAL KEYBOARD WHILE THE BLUETOOTH ONE IS STILL CONNECTED
Normally the virtual keyboard will not appear while a Bluetooth keyboard is connected to the iPad. If for some reason you need the virtual one to appear, just hit the eject key on the Apple's physical keyboard.
PUT MORE APPS IN THE BOTTOM TRAY
Click and hold an icon to unlock its position. Then drag it to the bottom tray. You can add an additional two apps to the four that are there by default.
SAVE TIME USING SPOTLIGHT
Instead of wading through the long lists in either iTunes or your Contacts, use the Spotlight search engine. Flick the Home screen to the right to access it or press the Home button. Start typing and search results will appear grouped by what app they can be found in.
REDEFINE YOUR HOME BUTTON
Double-clicking takes you to the home screen by default but you can change that result by going to General > Home and reset it to Search or iPod.
GO TO A CERTAIN WEBSITE EVERY DAY?
Add it to the home screen for quick access rather than search for it in Safari's bookmarks. Tap the "+" icon in Safari's toolbar and then tap "Add to Home Screen".
Save time in Safari by typing the web address and then using the iPad's ".com" key in the keyboard. If you press and hold that .com key, you get other options like .edu or .org.
TURN ON THE CAPS LOCK
Double tap on the shift key to turn Caps lock on.
CHANGE THE WALLPAPER
First use Safari to find your image. Press and hold on the screen and select Save Image. Then go to Settings > Brightness & Wallpaper. Click the arrow to the right, go to Saved Photos and select your image. Press the Set Lock Screen or Set Home Screen or both.
TAKE CONTROL OF IPAD NOTIFICATIONS
Control how loud popup notifications from New Mail, Sent Mail, Calendar alerts, etc are by going to Settings > Notifications.
The best time to charge is at night or while you're sleeping. It takes the iPad a good four to five hours for a full charge from empty.
ADJUST YOUR EMAIL SIGNATURE
Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts and Calendars > Signature and change it from the default "sent from my iPad".
GROUP YOUR ICONS
Use the 11 different home screens to group your apps so they are easier to find. Try using Work, Home, video, music to start with. Just tap and hold any icon and start rearranging them.
DISABLE THE KEYBOARD "CLICKING" NOISE
Trying to type notes in class? Get rid of the clicking noise by going to Settings > General > Sounds and turn off Keyboard Clicks.
SAVE A WEB IMAGE
While in Safari, tap and hold on an image and select Save Image from the menu.
ENABLE THE BOOKMARKS BAR IN SAFARI
By default, this bar is off. To enable, go to Settings > Safari and turn on Always Show Bookmarks bar.
CLEAR THE CACHE, HISTORY AND COOKIES FROM SAFARI
Go to Settings > Safari. Click on any of the buttons you need.
