Hold the volume down button for about two seconds. This will mute the iPad.
Push the top power button and home button at the same time for half a second. A 768x1024 image will appear in your iPhoto.
You're at the bottom of a very long web page. Instead of repeatedly dragging your finger across the screen, just tap the title bar of Safari once.
Only see one or two lines in your preview? With a larger screen than the iPhone, you can now adjust the mail preview so there are more lines of text. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts and Calendars and select "5 lines" under Preview. Handy when you're trying to skim through your emails faster.
Normally the virtual keyboard will not appear while a Bluetooth keyboard is connected to the iPad. If you need the virtual one to appear, just hit the eject key on the Apple's physical keyboard.
Click and hold an icon to unlock its position. Then drag it to the bottom tray. You can add an additional two apps to the four that are there by default.
Instead of wading through the long lists in either iTunes or your Contacts, use the Spotlight search engine. Flick the Home screen to the right to access it or press the Home button. Start typing and search results will appear grouped by what app they can be found in.
Double-clicking takes you to the home screen by default but you can change that result by going to General > Home and reset it to Search or iPod.

First use Safari to find your image. Press and hold on the screen and select Save Image. Then go to Settings > Brightness & Wallpaper. Click the arrow to the right, go to Saved Photos and select your image. Press the Set Lock Screen or Set Home Screen or both.
Control how loud popup notifications from New Mail, Sent Mail, Calendar alerts, etc are by going to Settings > Notifications.
The best time to charge is at night or while you're sleeping. It takes the iPad a good four to five hours for a full charge from empty.

Trying to type notes in class? Get rid of the clicking noise by going to Settings > General > Sounds and turn off Keyboard Clicks.
While in Safari, tap and hold on an image and select Save Image from the menu.
