Minimum Page Requirements

All official university Web pages are required to follow the minimum design requirements established to promote consistency and quality.* According to ECU's Web Policy:

"Official university Web pages include the East Carolina University home page (www.ecu.edu); academic department and program pages; office, administrative, and support unit pages; news and information pages; and any other World Wide Web address that is otherwise sponsored or endorsed or created on authority of a University Department or Administrative Unit; including course pages residing outside the secure course management system."

*Note that these requirements are subject to periodic change.

Header

The text, East Carolina University, or the graphic image below (or the color reversal of the graphic image below) should appear in the top left-hand corner of each Web page. This text/image is required to link back to www.ecu.edu. The name of the unit, or link to the unit's home page, should be located beneath the university name.

Footer

The bottom of each Web page must contain a date of last revision, links to the ECU Web Terms of Use/Disclaimer policy and contact information or a link to a feedback form to which questions and concerns on the Web site content should be directed.

Efficiency

Web pages should download quickly and efficiently. Divide large documents into smaller documents. Optimize graphics for rapid loading across typical network connection speeds.

Photos

Use of university-related photos is encouraged. Note that the width of the page, including photos, should not exceed 770 pixels wide. This ensures pages are viewable for monitors using 800 x 600 resolution.

Unofficial Web Pages are those maintained by individual university computer account holders on university servers such as personal faculty and staff Web pages, individual student Web pages and university-recognized student organization Web pages.
