Microsoft Office 2007

MICROSOFT OFFICE 2007

ITCS now supports Microsoft Office 2007. All new and replacement computers have the Office 2007 program suite already installed. Along with Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook, Office 2007 also includes these new programs:

OneNote - Consolidate your doodles, ideas and thoughts into one electronic notebook
Groove - Collaborate online with your team
Publisher - Create professional-looking flyers, brochures and more
Infopath - Design dynamic forms

If you are interested in replacing your current Office 2003 program suite with Office 2007, submit an installation request through the IT Help Desk (328.9866 or http://help.ecu.edu).

To learn more about Office 2007, take advantage of a variety of resources to become familiar with the Office 2007 new user interface and added features:

  • Enroll in the New Horizons online training program. New Horizons offers self-paced courses on the new features in Office 2007 applications. To submit a request for a New Horizons account, go to http://help.ecu.edu. Choose the link, “Submit an Online Request.” Sign in with your PirateID and password. In the left column under “Account Access,” choose the link “Online Anytime Training - New Horizons.” Complete the information in the form and submit.

  • Be sure to use the help feature available in each Office 2007 program. By clicking on the question mark icon located in the upper right corner of the screen, you can search the Microsoft Online Help to find how-to's and other reference information.

  • View the videos and handouts below

  • Contact us via the Help Desk for a group demo session

NEW FEATURES IN OFFICE 2007

While Microsoft Office 2007 still functions as well as the older Office 2003, the new interface is very different and includes quite a few new features. The most striking change is that the drop-down menus have been replaced by groups of tabs spaced along an information "ribbon." However, just remember that the most important document features can be found by clicking the Office Button.

Three more reasons to upgrade to Microsoft Office 2007:

  • Galleries provide users with many professional-looking templates for documents, presentations, spreadsheets and databases.

  • Live Preview allows a user to try out different looks for a document. Simply point to a gallery template and the document momentarily reformats.

  • Word and Excel documents can be saved in PDF format by downloading the Microsoft Save As PDF or XPS add-in.
