Personal Server
What is the ECU Personal Server?
All ECU students, faculty and staff with an active e-mail account can have 50MB of personal Web site space on the Personal server to post their own personal Web site. Your directory name is the same as your PirateID, therefore your personal Web site address is: http://personal.ecu.edu/YourPirateID/.
Please review ECU's Information Technology Policies to ensure the personal Web site you create adheres to all applicable rules and regulations.
Get Started
If you have not used your personal site before you will need to request access. To submit a request form: Go to http://help.ecu.edu >> Click Submit Online Request >> Online forms are in the left menu.
To establish a personal home page in this directory, you need to do the following:
1. Create your Web page files using your choice of Web design software.
2. Upload your Web page files to the internet using FTP software to the ECU Personal Web Server. Use personal.ecu.edu as your FTP address and login with your PirateID and passphrase. Text and video instructions are available in the ITCS Tutorial Library for your reference.
If you use Dreamweaver to design your site, refer to the Dreamweaver remote server FTP instructions. (pdf)
Note: Your home page is the front door to your Web site. So that your home page will automatically appear when someone enters your personal Web site address, be sure to name your home page file one of the following:
home.html
home.htm
index.html
index.htm
default.html
