Recover Deleted files from your Piratedrive

Determine what data was deleted and what the path to the data is. For example, if data was deleted from a “U” drive, the path would be \\piratedrive\facultystaff\userid or if the data was on a dept. folder, the path may be\\piratedrive\itcs\itss\systech.

From within Windows Explorer, you will map a drive to the path of the deleted data. However, before completing the mapped drive path, add a \.ckpt to the end of the path. For example, if you were wanting to access image snaps on a dept folder, the mapped drive path would look like this: \\piratedrive\itcs\.ckpt. See the example below in the picture:

After the mapped drive is connected, a window similar to the one below will open:

Checkpoint View

This shows the image snaps that exist for this particular folder. You can see each folder is named based on the date it was created. You can now drill down inside the folders to recover the needed files. They can simply be copied/pasted back to the correct folder.

A couple of notes:

  • The checkpoint folders are marked as “read only”, so you cannot accidentally save files in a checkpoint.
  • You can map a drive to any valid path and add the \.ckpt to the mapped drive path. It is not necessary to map to the root of a folder.
  • Permissions on checkpoints are the same as they are on the original files/folders. Therefore, you can walk a client through a user initiated data restore from a checkpoint.
