PirateID

What is Pirate ID?

PirateID is the same as a user ID, user name or Exchange ID. A PirateID, along with a passphrase, is used to log in to Outlook e-mail, Piratemail, OneStop, Blackboard and many other electronic systems at ECU. Whenever you reach a log in screen on your computer, it is asking for your PirateID.

Faculty & Staff

PirateIDs for faculty and staff are automatically generated using data provided by Human Resources. PirateIDs are last name and first initial. For example, employee Pat T. Driver's PirateID is driverp.

When another person has the same first and last name, adding additional letters from the first name continues until a unique PirateID is created.

Once a faculty or staff member leaves ECU, the PirateID is active for 120 days and then inactive for 180 more days. After this period, the account is deleted. A terminated employee's PirateID is deactivated immediately upon notification.

Faculty and staff should update their address book information through Banner Self Service in OneStop.

Students

PirateIDs for students are automatically generated from data supplied by the registrar's office. The Admissions Office First Year Center sends incoming students their new PirateID account information in one mailing, and the default passphrase in a separate mailing.

Once both pieces of information are received, incoming students should go to the PirateID Passphrase Maintenance page at http://www.ecu.edu/cs-itcs/passphrase.cfm and change the default passphrase. Students should also set up security questions that allow them to reset their own password. Students must do this before they are able to log in to OneStop or Piratemail. Please call the IT Help Desk (252.328.9866 or 1.800.340.7081) for assistance.

Student PirateIDs are retained as long as the student is enrolled. The first semester a student is not enrolled (fall or spring semesters only), the student's PirateID is deactivated. If the student is not enrolled for two consecutive semesters (fall or spring semesters only), the PirateID is deleted.

Student PirateIDs are initials and birth date (MMDD). For example, student James Frederick Pate was born on May 2nd. His PirateID is jfp0502.
