2.Question: What is the difference between "Launch on Desktop " and "Attend in Browser"?
"Launch on Desktop" installs the SabaCentra client onto your computer, whereas "Attend in Browser" opens a Web Client which uses Java to launch SabaCentra in your Internet browser. When possible, always select "Launch on Desktop" to use the rich SabaCentra Client which installs on your computer. The rich client provides users with more features when compared to the web client. If you are using a computer that doesn't grant you administrative privileges, such as those in a computer lab, or if you experience problems loading the rich client, using the web client by clicking on "Attend in Browser" is a good option.
3.Question: What assistance is provided by SabaCentra for students who are hearing or visually impaired?
SabaCentra is fully compliant to the Americans with Disabilities Act. For students who are hearing impaired, SabaCentra enables instructors to assign a captionist. Closed captions then scroll across the bottom of the screen for all to see both during the event as well as after the event in the playback.
For students who are visually impaired, SabaCentra provides keyboard shortcuts for all in-session functions, it is compatible with screen readers such as JAWS and Narrator and it provides 10 different auditory alerts which can be set up to notify students of session occurrences.
For more information, contact Disability Support Services by e-mail at dssdept@ecu.edu or by phone at 252-737-1016.
4.Question: Does it cost me anything to download and use the SabaCentra Client?

10.Question: What do I do if the SabaCentra login screen tells me I’m already logged in?
Most likely you already have another browser window open which has already been logged into the SabaCentra Server. Check your Windows task bar at the bottom of the screen for other instances of the browser, you can also use ALT-TAB to switch between the windows running on your PC. Once you locate this browser window, you can use it instead of logging in a 2nd time to the SabaCentra Server. If this is not the case, check to see if you are logged into SabaCentra from any other computers you may have at your home or at work. If this still doesn't work, you should shutdown and reboot your PC, then try it again. It is against University Policy to share your SabaCentra account with anyone - it is for your use only! Violators of this policy, will be reported to the University authorities. If you suspect that someone else has been using your account, contact us immediately and we can check the SabaCentra Logs. Also, follow the standard procedure for changing your SabaCentra password at least once per year.

11.Question: What happens if I get kicked out of SabaCentra?
There is a 30 second window after getting kicked out where it will tell you that you are still logged in if you try to reenter. Wait 60 seconds before reentering to ensure that SabaCentra has enough time to recognize that you have exited. The more times you try to enter too soon, the longer the delay in getting back into the session.

SabaCentra Participant FAQs
1.Question: Why can I hear everyone speaking but they can't hear me?
This problem has several possibilities.
a. Make sure that you have the mike. The instructor gives you the ability to speak audibly to the class by giving you the microphone symbol to the left of your name in the participant list. If you don’t have this, you won’t be able to speak.
b. Remember that you must hold the CTRL or F12 key down the entire time that you are speaking (press the key a few seconds before you start speaking to ensure the microphone has started transmitting.
c. Some microphones have an on/off switch on the cord, ensure that the switch is on.
d. Make sure that the microphone jack is plugged firmly into the microphone port on the soundcard in the back of the computer (a sound card typically has 3 ports, microphone, speaker, and line out. The microphone is usually color coded pink).
e. Run the SabaCentra Audio Wizard (click Tools on the SabaCentra Menu, select "SabaCentra Audio Wizard"). Follow the instructions on the wizard. When you are on the Recording screen, if you don’t hear your voice playback after you have pressed the record button and spoken for five seconds, then you have an audio problem.
f. Check your settings in the volume control panel. Right click the speaker icon in the lower right part of your desktop window. Left-click "Open Volume Controls". Under "Options" choose "Properties". Select "Recording" and click okay. The "Mic" balance should not be muted.

6.Question: Why is my audio sounding choppy and/or the graphics not loading properly?
SabaCentra requires a certain consistent bandwidth to be able to function correctly. SabaCentra will work properly (though not optimally) with as slow as a 28.8k dial-up modem Internet connection. However, the connection must be reliable and stable in the sense that the connection must maintain at least a certain minimum amount of bandwidth, any less than this and audio and/or slides will be dropped. This problem means generally that your Internet service provider (ISP) is experiencing heavy volume on their network. Try quitting the session and reconnecting to your ISP to get a better connection. If this still doesn't work you may consider finding a new ISP that can give you a more reliable connection.

8.Question: Can SabaCentra work if my computer is behind a firewall?
Many businesses and home users now have special hardware and/or software referred to as a firewall. The SabaCentra Client is quite firewall friendly, and is not likely cause you any problems in this regard. If you experience any firewall problems, then you will need to have the firewall configured with network ports 443, and 80 enabled to allow outgoing TCP network packets in order for SabaCentra to function properly. In addition ActiveX traffic needs to be enabled on the firewall which will permit the automatic installation of the SabaCentra Client on your computer.

SabaCentra Playback FAQs
1.Question: What is the purpose of the "playback" link?
Since all SabaCentra Events are recorded (live on-line classes with SabaCentra), the playback link appears after the event has concluded. To view a playback of an event, simply click on the playback link. You will then have the option to download the SabaCentra video file to your computer or to watch the event directly from the SabaCentra server.
2.Question: I clicked "Playback" but nothing appears to be happening. Why?
Before the playback starts playing, it has to buffer up the recording - depending on your connection this could be a delay of a few minutes before it starts playing. The current version of SabaCentra does not have an indicator displaying how long this will take. If you have a LAN, DSL, or cable-modem connection to the internet, you may not notice any delay. However, do not use the index points feature to jump around the recording until the recording has fully downloaded. (Refer to the next FAQ).

3.Question: What is the difference between "Launch on Desktop " and "Playback in Browser"?
"Launch on Desktop" installs the SabaCentra client onto your computer, whereas "Playback in Browser" opens a Web Client which uses Java to launch SabaCentra in your Internet browser. When possible, always select "Launch on Desktop" to use the rich SabaCentra Client which installs on your computer. The rich client provides users with more features when compared to the web client. 4.Question: How do I tell when it's safe to use the "index points" to jump to a different point in the playback?
Do not use the index points feature till the entire recording file (*.srd file) has been downloaded to your PC as this can corrupt the recording file. How does one tell when this is complete? Use the index points pick-list to navigate (but do not select any individual index points) the list. If you see any index points that are in italics (not regular font type) then those portions of the recording file are still being downloaded. It is safe to use the index points when all indexes are in regular font typeset.
