Glossary of terms for SabaCentra
Agenda - Organized list of content (the topics to be covered during a specific class meeting) that a Leader or Presenter shows during an Event.
Agenda Builder - The tool used to create an Agenda for a Event.
Agenda Item - An individual content item, such as a PowerPoint slide, graphic image, movie, Whiteboard tool, Application Share Tool, Survey, Web Page Link or text file.
Application Sharing - A tool that enables the user to launch, host, and share any Microsoft Windows-based application with the session participants. This is very useful for software demos and/or training, as it does not require the participants to have the application installed on their desktop in order to interact with the shared application.
Breakout Leader - A Participant designated by a Leader as the moderator for a particular Breakout Room/group during a Breakout Session.
Breakout Rooms - Any number of virtual rooms created by the Presenter in which the participants work separately in small groups. Excellent for case studies.
Breakout Session - The period of time during which one or more Breakout Participants and a Breakout Leader work as a group in a Breakout Room.
Browse Content - A method of pre-viewing Agenda items independently of the live Event.
SabaCentra Administrator - The person who administers the SabaCentra Server and its overall activities.
SabaCentra Client - The software application that SabaCentra uses to attend or lead a live SabaCentra Event. This software gets downloaded and installed automatically the first time the participant or leader attends or leads an event.
Content - Another term for Agenda, the sum of all materials (graphic image, video clip, flash, text, PowerPoint, or html) to be used in a SabaCentra Event.
Content Area - The main area of the Presenter and Participant's user interface that shows the interactive tool windows and Agenda items, a.ka. the Media Window.
Co-Presenter - The user who assists the Presenter or acts as a guest speaker during an Event.
Control - Also referred to as microphone control, or, control of a microphone during an Event.
Evaluation - A tool within SabaCentra used to measure the level of learning, obtain feedback on effectiveness, or to solicit participant input, created with Agenda Builder. Can be True/False, Multiple Choice, Short Answer, or Long Answer.
Event - A single instance of a scheduled presentation (class meeting or session) of a live SabaCentra Event.
Event List - A list of Current Events, All Events, Current Programs, and All Programs.
Feedback - Anonymous pacing or comprehension input provided to a Presenter by Participants. This can be done by the participants at any time and as often as necessary.
Group - A method of categorizing SabaCentra users into groups for efficient user, program and event management.
Import Tool - A tool that enables the Presenter to upload a PowerPoint presentation directly into an Agenda while leading a live SabaCentra Event.
In-session - The period of time after the Presenter (instructor) formally begins session (class). During this time the Presenter has control over the Agenda Content, Participant's microphones and all of the other tools in SabaCentra.
Leader - The person who leads and manages the activities in an Event. A.k.a. the Presenter.
Main Room - The virtual classroom where a SabaCentra Event takes place, as represented by the Presenter and Participant user interface.
My Schedule - The first page viewed by a SabaCentra user upon login. It displays upcoming, ongoing, and past events in which the user is currently enrolled.
Participant - An Individual who attends a live SabaCentra Symposium Event.
Participant List - The list of Participant names (students who have logged in to "attend" class) as displayed vertically on the left-hand side of the SabaCentra interface.
Playback - An instance of a pre-recorded event, which is available for playback. It contains all slides, annotations, audio tracks, application sharing, websafari and whiteboard activities that occurred during the actual live event.
Playback Viewer - The Presenter, Co-Presenter, or Participants watching the video broadcast.
Pre-session - The period of time between attending a live Event and when the Leader begins the session.
Private Text Chat - Text Chat tool option that enables a Participant and Leader to exchange and display confidential text chat messages.
Privilege - Rights that enable a user to implement or use a specific feature of SabaCentra, for example, the Leader role includes the privileges to view Evaluation results or enrollments.
Public Text Chat - Text Chat tool option that enables a Participant and Leader to exchange and display text chat messages that are viewed by all participants.
Survey - An Assessment tool that enables the Presenter to ask questions of Participants and immediately get their responses.
Symposium - The name for the SabaCentra product in earlier versions.
View Event List - List of scheduled Events on a particular server.
Web Client - The web client enables SabaCentra users to log into SabaCentra events through their browser window using Java. This enables users to join a SabaCentra event even if they are using a computer on which they do not have administrative rights, such as those in a computer lab.
Web Safari - A tool, which enables the user to launch a new instance of their Web browser to share out a live web page and give a web site tour or demo to the event participants.
Whiteboard - A tool which enables the user to draw, write text, use annotation tools, create shapes, and import graphic images in the shared Media Window area of the user interface.
