SabaCentra Upgrade to SabaMeeting
List of Changes and Enhancements
Click here for an informational video regarding the upgrade to SabaMeeting
Product name change – Saba has changed the name of their web conferencing program from SabaCentra (which we've always just called Centra) to SabaMeeting. Our website will be undergoing changes over the next several months to change the branding and product name from SabaCentra to SabaMeeting. Additionally, the URL of the Resource Center will change to http://www.ecu.edu/sabameeting/, the login page will change to https://sabameeting.ecu.edu/ and our e-mail address will change to sabameeting@ecu.edu. However, redirects will enable old Centra URLs and our current e-mail address to continue to work for the foreseeable future.
Fully functional browser client – Saba is continuing movement from a client that has to be downloaded and installed to a version that runs within any browser. The first step was during our last upgrade where a browser client with limited capabilities was introduced to run exclusively on Java within a browser. With this release, the browser client will have all of the capabilities of the desktop client and more because the browser client is where Saba will now be placing all of their new client enhancements. Some of these enhancements are listed below. Plans for the next future release are to remove the need for Java and run meetings exclusively on HTML 5. It's important to note, that even after the summer 2013 upgrade, the desktop client that everyone is familiar with using will still be available for everyone to use alongside the browser client, so you will have plenty of time to get comfortable with the browser client.
Ability for ECU faculty/staff to create their own meetings – Any ECU faculty or staff member will have the ability to login to SabaMeeting and create meetings (or in SabaMeeting terminology "Schedule Classrooms") themselves.
iPhone/iPad client upgrade – Fully redesigned interface. You can now lead with limited capabilities and even create meetings from the mobile app.
Android client release – Saba has released a mobile app for Android devices. You will be able to attend, lead with limited capabilities and even create meetings from the mobile app.
Option to make one primary live video large – Users have the option to make one of the shared live video screens large (browser client only).
Multiple layouts for multipoint live video – There will be several different layouts for how users wish to orient their up to 8 multipoint live video streams (browser client only).
Simultaneous Appshare and live video – Leaders and Presenters will have the ability to show live video while sharing the desktop or an application (browser client only).
Permission required to start someone's live video – When the leader or a presenter right clicks on a person's name, instead of seeing the "Give video camera" option, they will see the "Ask to start webcam" option instead. The selected person will then be told that the presenter would like their webcam turned on, at which point they can either accept or deny the request.
My Schedule Page Search - The My Schedule page will no longer display all events within each of the upcoming, ongoing, recordings and past tabs all at the same time. For users with a long list of event, it will display only 20 meetings at a time by default, and will provide the ability to search for meetings by date or title. This enhancement will also improve loading times.
Appshare single monitor in multi-monitor environments – If you have more than one monitor screen, you will have the ability to Appshare only one of the monitors at a time (browser client only).
Support for MP4 media files – Leaders and Presenters can now import MP4 media files into the agenda to be played.
