Voice over IP (VoIP) System - Main and Health Sciences Campuses
To request a new extension number, telephone equipment or to report a problem
Submit an online IT Help Desk service request or call the IT Help Desk at 252.328.9866. Routine service not requiring special-order equipment is usually provided within three (3) weeks of the service request.
To request a multi-step project involving engineering, wiring, multiple port installation, etc.
Submit either the BSOM IT Project Proposal or the IT Project Request form found in the Project Request section of the online IT Help Desk service request system.
Please note that departments are not authorized to make direct contact or commitments with the telephone company or other vendors for telephone services.

Any network services equipment connected to the campus telephone system must be authorized by the Director of Infrastructure Services.
Equipment installed for the purpose of recording of voice conversations will be limited to equipment expressly designed for voice messaging and message retrieval. Public Safety Answering Points (PSAP) are authorized to record voice conversations as long as such recordings are conducted in accordance with established FCC regulations.
Microsoft Exchange Unified Messaging allows you to manage e-mail, voicemail and instant messaging through the Outlook/Piratemail interface:
- Reset your voicemail PIN (password)
- Record a greeting
- Set preferences for the Voicemail Preview feature
- Add users to your Communicator IM contacts
You even have the option of having your phone call you to play your current greeting!

Nortel PBX System - Health Sciences Campus
The Health Sciences campus is transitioning from the traditional PBX telephone system currently provided by Nortel to the VoIP system.
Users should submit an online IT Help Desk service request or call the IT Help Desk at 328.9866 to report a problem or request a service.

University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina
ECU departments housed in the hospital facility should submit telephone service requests through the hospital's business office.
Student Organizations
Student organizations whose funds are controlled by the Student Fund Accounting Office request telecommunications services the same as a campus department.
Private Telephones
A private telephone not connected to the university's telephone system can be authorized by Network Services for the special needs of individuals upon written request. The requesting individual assumes full financial responsibility for the telephone.
Conference Calls
Main Campus Options:
- Conference calls are made at the same basic long distance rates with up to six internal and two external parties to anywhere in the U.S.
- Conference calls can be prearranged with a state operator in Raleigh by dialing 1.919.733.1110

Health Sciences Options:
- Conference calls on the Nortel system for up to six participants (see the Nortel Features PDF file)
- Conference calls between more than six participants through the Health Sciences conference bridge. To request a conference bridge reservation, submit a Help Desk request
Online Directory and Outlook Address Book Updates
Faculty, staff and student information in the ECU online directory and Outlook address book is updated in the Banner Self Service system (OneStop).
To change personal data (home address, office address, etc.) see this Banner Address Change pdf tutorial. Updates usually take 24-48 hours to appear.
It is the responsibility of individual departments to update the departmental listings for the online directory.
City Directory Listings
The city directory is published by
CenturyLink and
The Local Book. There is a monthly charge for each listing, therefore all university numbers are not listed.
Harassing Telephone Calls
Contact campus police at 328.6787 (Main) or 744.2246 (HS) to report harassing or threatening calls.
Residence halls can also contact the residence hall coordinator for assistance.
