FAQ'S ABOUT ECU's E-MAIL VAULTING PROJECT >> MAC-SPECIFIC QUESTIONS
1. What new features will I notice in my Inbox?
E-mail vaulting features include:
- a "7yr Retention" folder within your Inbox that allows you to archive important business correspondence—legal contracts, intellectual property, etc.—for longer periods of time
- 3 new toolbar icons within your e-mail application (Outlook and ECU’s Web-based Piratemail) that allow you to search for items stored in the e-mail vault and manually archive e-mails yourself

- access to the Web-based e-mail vaulting application that provides an additional way to search for items stored in the e-mail vault and allows you to restore e-mail to your Inbox
2. What e-mails/folders are being archived?
All e-mail located on university e-mail servers older than 90 days will be archived each night at 12midnight.
3. How long can I access my archived e-mail?
You will be able to access your archived e-mail for different periods of time:
- The items in the folder named “7yr Retention”, created in your Inbox, will be accessible for 7 years.
- All other e-mail that is archived will be accessible for 3 years.
4. How do I archive e-mail myself to the vault?
First, select the item(s) you want to archive. Next, click Store in Vault on the toolbar or, on the Tools menu, click Enterprise Vault > Store in Vault. Click OK to store the items.

5. Why is e-mail that was archived still showing up in my Inbox?
It will appear that the archived e-mail is still in your Inbox; however, the e-mail has indeed been archived, as indicated by the “shortcut” icon next to it (see below). This feature makes it easier for you to retrieve the e-mail should you need it.

6. How do I restore an e-mail from the shortcut in my Inbox?
You do not normally need to restore items to your mailbox because you can view them easily just by double-clicking their shortcuts.
To restore an item from an e-mail vault shortcut:
-
In your mailbox, select shortcuts to items that you want to restore.
-
Click Restore from Vault on the toolbar or, on the Tools menu, click Enterprise Vault > Restore from Vault.
-
Click OK to confirm that you want to restore the items. The original items are restored to your mailbox.
7. When I try to restore archived e-mail to my Inbox, I'm asked which e-mail server I'm on. How do I find this information?
Please use the information below to determine your e-mail server.
| Server | Last Names |
| Ecufs6 | A-EAR |
| Ecufs7 | EAS-KNE |
| Ecufs8 | KNF-RIC |
| Ecufs9 | ROU-ZZZ |
8. When I try to open an e-mail that has been vaulted, I get the error message "Error loading stylesheet: Parsing an XSLT stylesheet failed." Why is this?
Vaulted e-mails will only open in Internet Explorer, so if Firefox (or another browser) is set as your default browser, you will receive this error message and won't be able to access your vaulted e-mail. To set Internet Explorer as your default browser, go to:
Windows XP: Start -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs -> Set Program Access and Defaults -> Custom
Windows Vista: Start -> Default Programs -> Set Program Access and Computer Defaults -> Custom
You will see Internet Explorer and other installed browsers listed under "Choose a default Web browser".
9. I'm having trouble logging into "https://vault.ecu.edu". What am I doing wrong?
When logging into "https://vault.ecu.edu", you may need to add "intra\" (without the quotes) before your PirateID in the User Name field.
