Windows Vista

OVERVIEW

Late last year, Microsoft released a new version of their Windows operating system, named Windows Vista, which is a replacement for Windows XP.

Currently, ITCS is NOT supporting Windows Vista for faculty and staff computers due to compatibility issues with key ECU applications; however, students can now receive support for the Vista operating system from staff at the ACE Student Computer Support Center in Austin Building, Room 101 or in the Laupus Library, Room 3536.

VISTA AND COMPATIBILITY ISSUES

Examples of Key ECU Software/Application Compatibility Issues
At this time, the following known compatibility issues exist with Windows Vista:

-- SCT Banner, Blackboard WebCT. Currently, Banner and Blackboard are not certified for Windows Vista.

-- CommonSpot. The rich text editor (RTE) used to edit a CommonSpot Web page does not work in Vista and Internet Explorer 7. PaperThin is aware of compatibility issues and is testing CommonSpot with Vista; however, they have not yet set a date for certifying the application for Vista.

NOTE: It is the responsibility of the individual application manufacturer to release versions of their applications that are compatible with Windows Vista.
