Personal Web Sites
Current students, faculty and staff may request an html website hosted on the ITCS personal server. Sites are limited to 50MB and are for personal use.*
The URL is http://personal.ecu.edu/YourPirateID/.
Please review ECU's Information Technology Policies to ensure your site follows all applicable ECU guidelines.
*To create a website for a class or other academic use, use the the self-service My Web interface.
Request the site
Visit the IT Help Desk online service system and complete the Personal Website Space Request form from the Account Access category on the left.
Create the Pages
Create your html pages using the web authoring software of your choice. ITCS offers Expression Web authoring software free of charge to faculty and staff through ECU's campus agreement with Microsoft. To download this software to your campus computer, visit the ECU Download Center.
Expression Web, along with many other design programs, is available to students as a free download through the Microsoft DreamSpark site.
TIP: Be sure to name your home page one of the following:
- home.html
- home.htm
- index.html
- index.htm
- default.html
- default.htm
Upload the Pages to Your Site
Method 1. File Transfer Protocol
Once the page/s are created on your computer, upload these pages to the personal server using File Transfer Protocol (FTP) software.
There are free-standing FTP programs, such as FileZilla, Fetch and others. Dreamweaver and Expression Web have a built-in FTP feature.
