Personal Server
What is the ECU Personal Server?
All ECU students, faculty and staff with an active e-mail account are eligible for 50MB of Web site space to post a personal Web site. The directory name is the same as your PirateID, so the Web site address is: http://personal.ecu.edu/YourPirateID/.
Please review ECU's Information Technology Policies to ensure your site follows all applicable regulations.
Get Started
If you have not used your personal site before you will need to request access. To submit a request form, go to http://help.ecu.edu >> Click Submit Online Request >> Online forms are in the left menu.
To establish a personal home page in this directory, you need to do the following:
- Create your Web page files using your choice of Web design software.
- Upload the Web pages to the Personal Server using FTP software. Use personal.ecu.edu as your FTP address and log in with your PirateID and passphrase. Text and video instructions are available in the ITCS Tutorial Library for your reference.
If you use Dreamweaver to design your site, refer to the Dreamweaver remote server FTP instructions. (pdf)
Note: Your home page is the front door to your Web site. To ensure that your home page automatically loads when someone enters your personal Web site address, name your home page file one of the following:
- home.html
- home.htm
- index.html
- index.htm
- default.html
- default.htm
