Wireless Access at ECU

On Monday, October 12, 2009, the Taho wireless network will be renamed Pirates.

What does this mean for you?

  • Most users should not notice any major changes in the way you connect to the wireless network. Your computer or mobile device should automatically detect Pirates as an available wireless network.
  • Students on both campuses will continue to authenticate their PirateID and passphrase through the Cisco Clean Access Agent software to access the Pirates wireless network.

  • The secure wireless network named Buccaneer is also available. Buccaneer became the default wireless network on university-owned Windows PC laptops effective April 6, 2009. Instructions to set Buccaneer as the default network for Macintosh laptops can be found on the Faculty & Staff instructions page (see the link below).

  • University-owned Windows laptops on the Health Sciences campus also began using Buccaneer as the default network with Windows as the default wireless management client effective April 6, 2009.

  • Windows laptop users on the Health Sciences campus are also now required to authenticate their username and passphrase using the Cisco Clean Access Agent (CCA) software. Once a user logs in to the laptop, CCA verifies the user, and he/she will be connected to the Buccaneer network.

  • For more information and how-to's, see the links below.
