Finding Criticism:

First-Stops:
  • Modern Language Association International Bibliography (MLAIB): http://www.ecu.edu/cs-lib/reference/erdbs_description.cfm?id=164 Online access covers 1963-current. For 1921-1962, use the print indexes in the Reference Department. Search as an independent database or integrated into LION.
  • Annual Bibliography of English Language and Literatures (ABELL): http://www.ecu.edu/cs-lib/reference/erdbs_description.cfm?id=175 Online access covers 1892-current. Print indexes begin 1920. Search as an independent database or integrated into LION.
  • Literature Online (LION): http://www.ecu.edu/cs-lib/reference/erdbs_description.cfm?id=66. LION brings together multiple components: indexing of critical articles based on MLAIB and ABELL (see above), 175 fulltext critical journals, the Bibliography of American Literature, fulltext reference resources, and 18 collections of fulltext fiction, drama, and poetry.
  • Classical and Medieval Literature Criticism: Set of books which collect reprinted essays grouped by author or theme. The essay in CMLC is not always the complete essay; sometimes it is excerpted. Ref PN 610 C53x.
  • Literature Criticism from 1400 to 1800: Set of books which collect reprinted essays grouped by author or theme. The essay in LC is not always the complete essay; sometimes it is excerpted. Ref PN 86 L56.

Serial Solutions:

This new software will help you find out whether the library has a print or electronic copy of an article from some databases. When you choose a citation from among your results, click on the   button to generate a menu of options. Listed at the top are any databases which will lead you to an electronic copy. Further down the list is a link leading to the Joyner catalog, for you to search for print copies.

Note! This Serials Solutions software doesn't work perfectly—so you may need to double-check whether we have access to a particular article. We know, for instance, that books of criticism reported in MLAIB results can cause problems for the software.

Citation Linker: If you already have a citation from someone else's bibliography and want to find out if we have that article, key it into the Citation Linker: http://jw3mh2cm6n.search.serialssolutions.com/?SS_Page=refiner&SS_RefinerEditable=yes. When you click the Find IT! Button at the bottom of the page, you will generate a menu of options that works like the one described above.
