  • Entertainment/Suspected Copyright Infringement: ILL primarily exists to obtain material needed for your academic research. Some recreational use is permitted, within reason; however, due to the nature of the item you have requested or the number of items recently requested (e.g., popular TV shows on DVD, music CDs, or mass market fiction), we suspect that you might be using ILL mostly for non-academic reasons or to save copies of music to your computer. Please contact the ILL Staff to reactivate your request if you are using these items for academic projects.
  • Laupus Library Patron: Visit Joyner ILL vs. Laupus ILL for information on the difference between the libraries and why you should use Laupus Library instead of Joyner Library.
  • Library Account Blocked: Either the Circulation Department has placed a block on your ILL account for non-payment of circulation fines, usually for overdue or lost items, or the ILL Department has blocked your account for failure to return overdue items or to pay outstanding invoices. Contact the Circulation Desk and/or the ILL Staff to clear your account and to reactivate your ILL request.
  • Need to separate into multiple requests: Due to copyright compliance, internal statistics, and requirements by other libraries, requests usually need to be made for individual items rather than multiple ones, even if they are related. So, rather than submitting a request for the front page of a newspaper for three days in a row, or for two articles in the same journal issue, you need to create a request for each one that you want. Contact the ILL Staff if you have questions about how to best separate your requests.
  • No Reply to E-Mail Follow-Up: The ILL Staff has a question about your request and emailed you for clarification. Having not heard back from you or having overlooked your reply, the ILL Staff cancelled your request on the assumption that you no longer needed the material. If you still want the material requested, contact the ILL Staff.
  • Other: Please contact the ILL Staff for an explanation.
  • Patron Requested Cancellation: The ILL Staff received notification that you no longer wanted this material. If you still want the material, contact the ILL Staff to reactivate your request.
  • Testing: If your request is cancelled with this reason given, contact the ILL Staff. This reason should only be used by ILL staff to clear fake requests being used to test the functionality of the ILLiad system. It is likely that your request was mistakenly cancelled.
  • Textbook: For a full explanation on why textbooks cannot be borrowed visit the Required Course Textbooks & ILL web page.
  • This is a duplicate request: Another request for this item by you exists in the system and is being searched. There is no need to follow-up on this request, for the other one is being processed. Duplicates are often created accidentally by refreshing your internet browser immediately after submitting a request in ILLiad.
  • Too new for interlibrary loan: The requested item has either not yet been published or is not yet owned by libraries willing to lend it. You may request that Joyner Library purchase it.
  • Unable to Borrow Thesis/Dissertation: Your request is for a thesis or dissertation. Some of these documents are not able to be borrowed from or photocopied by libraries. Some institutions, particularly non-American ones, did not maintain these in their library collections until recent decades. Other libraries simply do not loan their collections because the copy that is owned is the only one in existence in the world, and copyright laws or other policies restrict libraries from copying entire books. All attempts were made to locate a loan or a photocopy. Contact the ILL Staff to learn where you could physically visit to access the document.
  • Unable to verity your request as cited: We could not find the work with the information you gave us. Please check your sources and inform the ILL Staff of any clarifications so we can attempt your request again.
  • We could not fill your request by your deadline: You entered a Not Wanted After / Need Before date that we could not meet. If you could still make use of this item if it could be found within another few days or weeks, contact the ILL Staff.
  • We have exhausted all possible sources: No libraries, document providers, or other sources were located that could or would provide the material requested by you. If you need this material for your research, contact the ILL Staff to learn where you could physically visit to access the material. The reference librarians might also be able to help you locate other resources to meet your research needs.
