What is ILLiad?
ILLiad is the electronic system used to receive, process, and deliver your interlibrary loan requests. The name ILLiad is an acronym for "InterLibrary Loan internet accessible database".
What Web browser should I use?
You may use any browser that can handle forms, tables, frames, CSS style sheets, and JavaScript, including the most recent versions of Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Apple Safari. If your display looks strange, please let the Interlibrary Loan staff know.
Why does my browser say that you're sending a cookie? What's in it?
The Active Server Pages technology that we use to provide live reporting for the web sends a Session ID to be stored on your machine. You can refuse this cookie and still be able to use the ILL web pages and ILLiad without any problems.
Is security a problem if I use a public workstation?
Yes. Web browsers cache information and create a history file on a shared local workstation. This allows a subsequent user of a workstation to access the system under your name using the browser's Back button to recall a page from the cache, or by finding a page with your personal information in the browser's history file.
To help reduce identify theft and breaches of privacy, ECU computer labs and most library computer terminals require you to login using your PirateID. This prevents subsequent users from accessing previous users' browser caches and history files. To ensure your privacy, though, you must logout from these computers.
To further protect yourself and your privacy using ILLiad:
- Keep your PirateID and Passphrase or ILLiad username and password private.
- Choose a password consisting of mixed case letters, numbers, and symbols, avoiding complete words found in the dictionary. Example: G0P1r@tes (think 'go Pirates')
- Close your browser when you are finished using ILLiad.
- Logoff of ECU computers and logoff or restart personal computers.
What should I do if I get an error message?
ILLiad may give you error messages for a variety of reasons.
- You might not have an ILLiad account. If you know your have registered before, simply try logging in again or contacting the ILL staff.
- Your username or password might not have been entered correctly. Simply try logging in again or contacting the ILL staff.
- Your ILLiad account could have expired. Simply contact the ILL staff.
- Your ILLiad account could be blocked because you currently have an ILL overdue or you have recently had one overdue. Simply contact the ILL staff.
- ILLiad could be experiencing a system outage or error. Please try your action again. If it continues to fail, please contact the ILL staff.
- You might have left a required field blank on a request form or have entered the required information in an incorrect format. The error message should provide direction on what needs to be corrected. If it continues to fail, please contact the ILL staff.
- Your ILLiad session could have timed out. Sessions only last for 30 minutes. Simply log back in.
