ILL Borrowing

Make a Request using ILLiad

ILL Borrowing helps you obtain research you need that is not otherwise available from Joyner Library. Most materials are borrowed from other libraries in North Carolina and in the rest of the United States of America, but we also borrow from libraries around the world. To fulfill some requests, it is occasionally necessary to purchase material from commercial venders, government agencies, and non-profit organizations.

All members of the ECU community who are not affiliated with the Division of Health Sciences may request materials not owned by Joyner Library through Joyner ILL Borrowing.

For answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs) about ILL Borrowing and the ILLiad interface, visit the Help page or contact the staff.

Laupus Health Sciences Library
All ECU students, faculty, and staff who are not part of the Division of Health Sciences (Brody School of Medicine, School of Nursing, and School of Allied Health), may now request materials located at Laupus Health Sciences Library on the ECU medical campus through ILL Borrowing. Photocopies from Laupus will be delivered electronically and loaned items will be shipped to Joyner's Circulation Desk for pickup. Your request usually will be filled within several business days. Non-Circulating and reserve materials will not be delivered, though small portions may be photocopied. If your request cannot be filled because of loan restrictions or page length, or you need an item quickly, you may also visit Laupus Library to use their materials.Unless you are going toLaupusLibrary, requests for its materials must be made via Joyner's ILLiad system and should note that the materials are located atLaupusalong with the collection/location name and call number. Providing all of this information will speed the processing of your request.

For more information on this service and for a list of departments/majors serviced by Laupus Library, please visit this web page.

University of North Carolina Cooperative Library Lending Agreement
All ECU students, faculty, and staff can directly borrow materials from any of the other 15 UNC System libraries via the University of North Carolina Cooperative Library Lending Agreement, http://www.lib.ncsu.edu/borrow/unc, without going through Interlibrary Loan.  Materials can be checked out from UNC libraries with your current student ID; if you do not have an ECU ID card or a library refuses to accept it, please ask the library to contact the Joyner Library Circulation Desk to verify your enrollment by calling 252-328-6518. Once finished with the item or upon its due date, you can either return them to that library or you can bring them to the ILL department for us to return to the other library for free -- your choice!

This service is particularly useful for Distance Education patrons, those home on break, and for those who are in desperate need of material immediately, especially over a weekend when Interlibrary Loan departments are closed.

Of course, you can always request through ILL Borrowing materials owned by other UNC libraries.
