East Carolina University Libraries Development Officer- This is a Senior Academic and Administrative Officer, 12-month position. The Development Officer position will be split evenly between Joyner Library and Laupus Library and will report to both the Dean of Joyner Library and the Director of Laupus Library. The position will be responsible for coordinating, supporting and growing the Joyner Library Advancement Council and the Friends groups of both libraries. It will develop fundraising and involvement initiatives for both libraries, manage a portfolio of and solicit funds from current and prospective donors, and develop and manage special projects and solicitations. The position will work closely with staff in the Division of University Advancement Office to coordinate annual giving initiatives, recognition and stewardship of key donors, and identification and solicitation of potential donors. The Development Officer will also help identify needs and potential donors for the Country Doctor Museum, a history program of the Laupus Library, located in Bailey, N.C.-

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Developing a strong working relationship with the Dean of Joyner Library and the Director of Laupus Library, coordinating their involvement in development initiatives.
  2. Coordinating the activities of the Joyner Library Advancement Council and the Friends groups at both libraries.
  3. Preparing an annual work plan of goals and objectives that includes such metrics as number of donor visits, proposals submitted, and dollars raised.
  4. Managing and building a portfolio of approximately 100 current and prospective annual donors in the $50 to $10,000 range.
  5. Working with the Office of Annual Giving to coordinate direct mail, e-mail and call center initiatives.
  6. Working with the Office of University Development to coordinate recognition and stewardship of key donors.
  7. Working with the Office of Alumni Programs to coordinate alumni events and involvement opportunities.
  8. Identifying the needs and potential donors for the Country Doctor Museum.
  9. Participating as the Libraries' representative on the ECU Development Council.
  10. Staying abreast of best practices in the field by attending regular professional development sessions.

This position will be split evenly between Academic Library Services (Joyner Library) and the William E. Laupus Health Sciences Library (Laupus Library).

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution required; advanced degree from an appropriately accredited institution preferred, but this preference may be offset by equivalent, significant, and related experience.

Minimum of three years of development experience, or an equivalent combination of related experience, with higher education or library development experience preferred.
Demonstrated ability to meet funding goals and build an active donor base. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and solid interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate the role of academic libraries to an external audience. Experience with volunteer management preferred.
Must possess integrity, have excellent analytical and organizational skills, including experience in planning and coordinating constituent-focused events, and be goal- oriented. Experience with relevant technologies for donor and gift management, web editing, e-communications, etc.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting. Ability to travel and work non-traditional schedule as needed.
