Academic Library Services is seeking a technology support specialist. The individual in this position will focus on several projects, starting with important upgrades to the university's institutional repository. Its DSpace software can be upgraded to a new release, and a module for Current Research Information Systems (CRIS) applied. In addition, this position will investigate and may apply ways to make the repository a locus of conversation. This individual will also help create a new collection of scanned items within the institutional repository related to Coastal Studies, and consider methods for systematically harvesting other items. This staff member may also be tasked with aiding ECU editors of journals that are published locally using Open Journal Systems through such means as creating a single portal for these journals, and upgrading the OJS instance for each journal.
Knowledge of open source development environments, including proficiency in Java, XML, XSL, and SQL is essential. An understanding of IIS and Apache is important as well as experience designing, developing, and deploying online applications using open source development environments and protocols. Additionally, experience with an open source content management system, especially DSpace, is desirable. This position will work closely with members of the library's Application Services & Design group to customize DSpace using Manakin. It is critical that the candidate possess effective oral and written communication skills as well as exceptional interpersonal skills. Associate's degree in computer science, information technology, or related discipline and one year of experience in the information technology field related to the area of assignment; or Bachelor's degree and one year of experience in the information technology field related to the area of assignment; or Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
