The University Archives contains over 1000 films, audio and videotapes.
The films are in critical need of preservation attention. The oldest films are deteriorating rapidly, steps must be taken quickly to prevent the total loss of these items. There are 16mm and 35mm films of campus, commencements and other events on campus as well as films of ECU basketball and football games. The majority are black and white, though some are in color and a few have sound. Many have not been identified.
Audiotapes and videotapes have a shelf life of about 10 years. One method of preservation of these items is digitization.
Film restoration costs about $500 per 10 minutes of footage. An example of a film that has been restored is available at: ECU Football Film Archives
