The cataloging departments are responsible for the timely and accurate cataloging of newly acquired materials for all areas of the library.
General Collections Cataloging catalogs books and electronic resources for the general, music and reference collections, government documents, serials, DVDs and microforms, as well as performing the physical processing for the majority of all materials cataloged. General Collections Cataloging also handles rush requests, withdrawal of materials and database maintenance projects.
Special Collections Cataloging, Metadata, & Authorities catalogs materials for all areas of Special Collections, the North Carolina Collection, and the Teaching Resources Center, as well as handling some music scores cataloging. Special Collections Cataloging also creates descriptive metadata for Digital Collections Repository items and for electronic theses and dissertations in the ScholarShip. We provide metadata support for grant projects involving digitization. We also manage authority control in the library catalog and submit authorities (focusing on Eastern North Carolina names) to the NACO program.
