The Friends of Joyner Library was established to foster the role of Joyner Library as a university and global resource. The Friends sponsor programs focused on raising awareness of the library's resources and support fundraising activities to develop and preserve collection development and facility upgrades.
The Friends of Joyner Library Annual Spring Banquet will be held April 21, 2016 at the Greenville Hilton and feature Natalie Baszile, author of Queen Sugar.
We will also be honoring Elizabeth (Liz) Sparrow with the Honorary Lifetime Membership Award.

Natalie Baszile is the author of the novel, Queen Sugar, which is being adapted for TV by writer/director, Ava DuVernay of “Selma” fame, and co-produced by Oprah Winfrey for OWN, Winfrey’s cable network. Queen Sugar was named one of the San Francisco Chronicles’ Best Books of 2014, was long-listed for the Crooks Corner Southern Book Prize, and nominated for an NAACP Image Award. Natalie has a M.A. in Afro-American Studies from UCLA, and holds an MFA from Warren Wilson College’s MFA Program for Writers. Her non-fiction work has appeared in The Rumpus.net, Mission at Tenth, The Best Women’s Travel Writing Volume 9, and O, The Oprah Magazine. She lives in San Francisco.
