Hurricane Assistance Information

North Carolina Storm Information - Official NC state government site for finding information on hurricanes, how to prepare, and information on how to cope and relief efforts.

Hurricane Preparedness - A detailed guide from NOAA's National Hurricane Center.

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) - This is the starting point for those seeking federal relief help.  Telephone registration is the most important first step to determine an applicant's eligibility for low interest loans and/or grants.

National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (NVOAD) - A partnership in disaster response, this organization was founded in the simple belief that the time to prepare for the next disaster is now.  The primary purpose of this web site is to serve members' information needs and inform the public of the cooperative efforts of disaster response organizations in the U.S.

American Red Cross - This Web site from the Triangle Area Chapter contains lots of information about programs and relief that are available from the Red Cross, as well as articles/press releases on the events themselves. Donations may also be made to help in the relief efforts.

The Salvation Army - The Salvation Army offers food, shelter, counseling and many other services to disaster victims.

Samaritan's Purse - Led by Franklin Graham, this nondenominational, evangelical Christian organization provides repair and clean-up help in the wake of major hurricanes.  Priority is given to the poor, uninsured and elderly.

Mennonite Disaster Service - This network of various constituencies of the Anabaptist churches, responds to those affected by disasters in North America.  It provides clean-up, repairing and rebuilding services.

Second Harvest - Second Harvest is the largest charitable hunger relief organization in the United States. Its mission is to feed hungry people by soliciting and distributing food and grocery products through a nationwide network of certified affiliate food banks.  The Food Bank of North Carolina acts as a central collection point for donations from statewide food drives, and other donated inventory from around the country.  This food is then distributed to shelters and mobile sites in the disaster areas.

Catholic Charities USA - Works with church and parish groups to identify unmet needs in impacted communities.  Food, clothing, shelter and other emergency needs are available.

State Historic Preservation Office - This site contains a wealth of helpful information for dealing with damaged buildings following a disaster.

WRAL-TV5 - Web site of Raleigh CBS affiliate offers a good source for keeping up with the latest hurricane news and developments.
