Located in the eastern part of North Carolina, Pitt County was created in 1760 from Beaufort County. The county seat, Greenville, was founded in 1771 as Martinsborough and is located in the central part of Pitt County. Greenville is also the home of East Carolina University, which was chartered in 1907 as East Carolina Teachers Training School.
This bibliography covers resources available in the North Carolina Collection at ECU's Joyner Library that focus on Pitt County and the city of Greenville in the general and special categories that are linked above. Although some information about the university is included here, more can be found in the separate subject guide
"East Carolina University: Sources for Study." Note: for both current and historical information about Greenville or Pitt County, see also the Clippings File on the North Carolina Collection home page (ask at desk for material) and the Vertical File on the North Carolina Collection home page (ask at desk for material).
