Pitt County Major Roads in 1862

Many of the present roads in Pitt County are built on ancient roadbeds, as can be seen by comparing a modern map to the one drawn by the Confederate engineer (see previous map). This map attempts to reconstruct the overland transportation routes available around the time of the Civil War. It also marks major communities, many of which still exist.
