This page contains a list of the subject headings used in the North Carolina Collection's Vertical File. The Vertical File contains brochures, pamphlets, newsletters, and other printed material pertaining to North Carolina people, organizations, places, history, and events. Files on a county, for example, typically include brochures pertaining to natural or historic sites, cultural events, and local businesses. The North Carolina Collection makes an effort to update these files every few years. These files may be requested at the North Carolina Collection's Service Desk and used in the Reading Room. Remote users may contact our staff members to inquire about the content of specific files.

To explore the subject headings used in the Vertical File, click on the letter of the alphabet corresponding to the topic in which you are interested. You may scroll down the list of headings beginning with that letter or use your Web browser's Edit/Find command to search for a heading. Subject headings are revised periodically to better reflect current Library of Congress practice and to provide easier access by patrons.

A self-serve photocopier is available in the North Carolina Collection. Copies may be obtained through the mail at a cost of 10 cents per page. Mailing charges are $1.00 (25 copies or fewer) and $3.00 (more than 25 copies). Checks may be made payable to Joyner Library. To contact the North Carolina Collection:
