Academic Library Services Laptop Loan Agreement
- Laptops may be loaned to currently, verifiably-enrolled ECU students once daily for a period of twelve hours or until fifteen minutes before the library closes for business on the day of the loan, whichever comes first. Laptop loans may be renewed up to two times for a period of twelve hours each or until fifteen minutes before the library closes for business on the day of the loan, whichever comes first. Online or phone renewals are not allowed. The laptop must be brought to the service desk for renewal.
- Laptops may not be taken out of the Library for any reason.
- The loan will include a laptop, power cord, mouse, mouse pad, and external floppy drive in a carrying case.
- Laptops may not be reserved in advance.
- The laptop must be returned to a staff person at the desk from which it was checked out and should never be placed in a book drop for return. No laptop will be checked in until it has been inspected and approved by library staff.
- The Library provides limited computer and software assistance.
- Print jobs can be sent to networked printers within the building at the current rate charged.
- Standard configuration includes a Windows operating system, Microsoft Office products, and Internet Explorer. The borrower may not add or remove software, or modify the laptop configuration.
- The borrower will be held financially responsible for damage and/or loss of any loaned equipment.
- Fees for repair to a damaged laptop will be assessed by the university and a bill sent to the borrower. This fee will be placed on the borrower’s student university record.
- Overdue fines and replacement fees are as follows:
- $5 overdue fine per hour, cumulative up to a maximum total of $120.
- $1500 replacement fee
- The borrower’s university records will be tagged for overdue equipment by noon of the day following the due date.
- The borrower’s use of the laptop in any way that violates Library or University computer use policies will result in the student’s library record being tagged as a “non-laptop borrower” and the studentwill not be eligible for laptop checkout thereafter.
- Borrowers are expected to read and abide by ECU’s “University Student and Employee Computer Use Policy” which can be viewed at http://www.ecu.edu/cs-itcs/policies/staffstudentpolicy.cfm.
- Borrowers are responsible for ensuring the security of the laptop while it is in their possession. It is strongly urged that laptops not be left unattended.
