Schedule a Library Instruction Session

ECU faculty members may request course-related library research instruction for their classes. Instruction sessions are taught by librarians and library assistants, who tailor the content to the specific class assignment and the students' research needs. Instruction sessions can cover print sources, subscription databases (such as Academic Search Elite, Proquest, PsycInfo, ERIC, MLA Bibliography, etc.), the library catalog, and/or Internet sites. They can also include tips on formulating effective search strategies and evaluating sources.

Faculty are strongly encouraged to attend the library instruction sessions. When the classroom faculty members attend and participate, the students place higher value on the library instruction.

Most instruction sessions are held in Joyner Library Room 1020 or Room 1021. These classrooms provide students with the opportunity for hands-on learning. However, arrangements can be made for a librarian to visit your classroom or lab.

Please schedule your class at least two weeks in advance. The Joyner Library Instruction Request Form can be used to schedule a class session. Or, you can contact Carolyn Willis , Coordinator of Instructional Services, via email or telephone (328-0400).  Please include the following information:

  •  Your name and email address and a phone number where you can be reached.
  •  Course name and number.
  •  Number of students in the class.
  •  Day, date, and time you would like to bring the class(es) to the library. (It is helpful to have back-up dates, as well.)
  •  Specific research tools you wish to include in the instruction session. (Librarians will be happy to discuss the various options with you.)
  •  The assignment, project or research needs the instruction session should address.
